FCP 7 and Lion

FCPX:

Does it ship with the update that makes it backwards compatible with FCP7 files?
Does it import mini-DV files from a Sony FX-1?
Have spent 4 years working with FCP7, about how long will my learning curve be on FCPX?

FCP 7 will run on Lion.

There are a couple of apps that will translate much of a sequence between FCP 7 and FCP X. They are Xto7 and 7toX. Both available in the apps store. (not expensive either).

It will import any media from DV to HD to PSD to whatever save RED files which is coming soon according to Apple. It will capture DV or HDV via firewire connections.

Just purchased and iMac 2.5ghz i5 mid 2011 machine that shipped with Lion.
Was working on a Macbook Pro circa 2008 running Snow Leopard and just copied/ported my files, settings, and applications thru Wi-fi network to the new machine.

Now after reading your posts, I’m wondering if I should wipe and start again as my applications include Final Cut 6 and the CS4 Production Suite (after I updated the Java).
Final Cut 6 seems to be working, but I don’t want to get into a project and find out the hard way that it’s not. So I’m going to do some tests on FCP 6 and see if it snags or hiccups.

What are the bugs that folks see with this and will an upgrade to FCP 7 fix them (assuming I can find a copy now it’s been terminated by Apple.) I’m also a little concerned that if I do a clean install and start again, installing FCP 6 from the discs, Lion won’t recognize the them because there is no Rosetta software.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

I read all your posts since a couple of months, read others too and I finally decided to move to ML . I made a complete back up copy of my iMac, did a clean install of ML and reload my back up, made a software updates and everything work fine. FCP 7 as well as iTune, iMovie (will pass to iMovie “PRO”soon.. FCP X!) , mail, …in fact, every apps I had work fine and if I had something to tell in 3 words I would say…..
