FCP 6.05 – Reconnect Media problem
I’ve reconnected media that has moved or been copied to other another folder or drive many times, but strangely I’ve never seen FCP do this. I’m wonder if anyone could assist me?
1) I noticed a file was off-line (the redline on it) . The title of the video clip is “Scarf”
2) I right clicked the clip and it selected reconnect media. When it whent to look for it the name was no longer “Scarf” it is waschanged to “Book1TB” ( which is the name of the drive the clip was located in, that is no longer with me).
3) I have the clip titled ” Scarf”, I located the folder and everything , but because the name was changed to the drive name location FCP would not let me reconnect, ( even when I turned off the “match name and reel” function.)
So I have the clip and its name correctly in my project, how do I re-connect another way?
Please help!

Did you capture the clip, then rename it in FCP? Say did you capture it using CAPTURE NOW without naming it, thus making it have the name UNTITLED-some number, and then rename it in FCP in the Browser?
When you find it on the drive…in the Finder. Does it have that name Book1TB? That’s odd.

I had an edited program from another machine (FCP 5) that was media managed and checked prior to me getting it on a portable drive.I copied the project and media onto MY local system (FCP 6.0.5) and then disconnected the portable drive.
When I opened the copied project it asked for the media but instead of displaying the hundreds of clips that were involved it just showed one clip titled “. No not a typo, just the single character “.So I reconnected the portable drive and opened the original (with media connected) and it opened everything fine so I saved that project to my local drive. Then I disconnected the portable drive and re-opened the just saved project and this time it DID ask for all the required media and then reconnected fine.
So I put it down to a bug in 6.0.5. In future I will check each project BEFORE I hand back the portable drive. Maybe that will work for your problem.

What I ended up doing was recapturing the clip ( luckily I’m a good logger) I did this because the clip I was looking to re-connect would not open up in QTime pro, even though the file called it self a QT file?
Still can’t figure why it changed the name in the reconnect process.
