  • FCP 6.0.4 update locks up Compressor

Something new since we ran the latest updates to move from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 6.0.4 with the latest ProApps update.

Start Compressor running off a virtual cluster.

Then launch FCP while this is happening.

FCP will get stuck on the splash screen and Compressor will lock up.

Force Quit FCP, Force Quit Compressor.

FCP will not re-launch, Compressor will not start compressing again.

    Restart the machine to fix.

Never had this issue with FCP 6.0.3 and Compressor running the virtual clusters. Not sure if this is an added “feature” now with 6.0.4 or something else that Apple broke.

This is on our Octo Core fully updated to everything latest and greatest with the ATI 2600 and Kona 3.

Try deleting and recreating your virtual cluster.

    Hey Walter,

I’ve never been able to use virtual clusters direct from FCP (have to make a reference movie for Compressor) due to the way FCS runs its licensing – looks like two machines w/same serial #,etc. Is this a possible cause for the hangup? One test might be to try opening any other FCS app, like Motion, and seeing if that hang it, also.

[Jeremy Garchow] “Try deleting and recreating your virtual cluster. “

Been a while since I started this thread, but I’ve deleted and recreated the cluster twice. Now Final Cut Pro still won’t start up, but at least Compressor is not locking up anymore.

I guess you just can’t run FCP anymore with a virtual cluster enabled.

Well, think about it. A virtual cluster is basically taking up as much processing power as your computer can kick out. If you have FCP open, then start Compressor, you should be fine.
