FCP 6.02 VERY VERY VERY BUGGY
Posted by Frederic Lumiere on December 16, 2007 at 5:18 pmAnyone else struggling with 6.0.2?
Prores HD is unusable (renders introduce artifacts and take 20X as long as DVCPRO HD, freezing of slow mo, sub high quality output via kona 3, etc.)
New bugs introduced (snapping snaps off on its own, timeline timecode inconsistent between settings and timeline, etc.)
Self contained outputs take 20X as long as they used to
This is just a short list of a lot more issues…
This is the worse release since 1.0 in my opinion.

December 16, 2007 at 5:25 pmI think you have other problems, possibly hardware issues. Change anything else?
All the best,

December 16, 2007 at 5:46 pmWe find that a lot of the issues are inconsistent. Prores HD issues are pretty predictable but slow renders and output to self contained in DVCPRO HD are intermittent.
We output 12 masters per week for Networks so we are really feeling the pain.

December 16, 2007 at 5:54 pmActually we’re not. Each machine has its own RAID. We are experiencing these issues at different locations as well.
If anyone is using Prores HD (HQ) successfully on a full length show, I’d love to hear about it.
Right now, a simple output to self contained VCPRO HD 720p project (1 hr TRT) is taking close to 5 hours.

December 16, 2007 at 7:43 pmAre the exporting problems the same as the pdf report you sent out a few weeks back?
Are these long exports when you have to re-compress all frames? Or are you doing the short cut way you did in 6.01?
Man this is not good news as we are upgrading a ton of machines tomorrow to 6.02!!

December 16, 2007 at 8:53 pmHe mentions that it’s by no means complete, but be sure to check out Jeremy’s experience with the bugs in FCP 6. Definitely something to have in mind as you consider upgrading….

Hold the phone just a minute… Jeremy’s published bug report is very slickly produced, very offical looking, and lord knows, Jeremy does know what he’s talking about, and so I’m certain he’s experiencing all of these issues, but no one should think for a minute that his findings, or those of Lumiere (where’s his real name BTW?) are universal to all FCP users with 6.0.2 installed.

December 16, 2007 at 9:44 pmHey Lumiere. I have found rendering issues with ProRes and HQ since 6.0.2.
What are you seeing?
