  • FCP 6 unexpectedly shuts down when opening

Posted by Lori Miranda on April 2, 2010 at 5:06 pm

    Hi there,

I recently had to re-install FCP 6 on my computer and now it unexpectedly quits every time I try to open it. I remember this happening the first time I installed so I immediately went to trash my preferences. This allowed me to get all the way to the FCP setup page but then it still unexpectedly quit. I have trashed my preferences 10 times, restarted 5 times, repaired my disk permissions twice and now I am about to pull my hair out.

I checked all my system requirements and they are good. The only thing I can see is that it says to run with Quicktime 7.1.6 or higher. I am on QT 7.6. Could this be the problem? Is it too high?

Any suggestions? I am really stressed out about this. I am on a deadline and even tried installing an older version of Final Cut (4.5), which worked but makes my titles look soft and wonky. Is there anything I can do about this- just to get the job done. I would rather get version 6 to work since 4.5 is painfully slow but am willing to work with what I have as long as I can fix the text problem.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Lori

Try this. It’s got a 15 day trial period but you’ll probably want to buy it after you find out how useful it is.

After the first 5 unexpected quits, they really should re-label that- “FCP has expectedly quit.”

[Bret Williams] “After the first 5 unexpected quits, they really should re-label that- “FCP has expectedly quit.””

But the really big question is, if FCP unexpectedly shuts down when opening, why doesn’t it also unexpectedly open when shutting down?
