    Hey guys,

I have a two-hour FCP6 clip I want to export to DVD Studio Pro w/best quality. Is a regular QT Movie export as a QT reference the best and fastest way?

You should export an FCP reference of Self-contained file with current settings.

Bring that file into Compressor and apply the “DVD 120 minute Best Quality” settings.

Compressor will then create an MPEG and ac3 file. Bring those files into DVD SP

Did you mean Reference or Self-Contained. I exported a reference file, put that into Compressor, and am currently encoding for Studio Pro. I tried exporting a reference file and importing straight into Studio Pro but it gave me an error at the end!

oops, sorry. I always do that. I meant “reference oR self contained”

If you’re getting an error when you bring a reference or self contained file into DVDSP, go into DVD SP Preferences. Make sure the Project, General, and Encoding panes are set up for SD DVD.

The best thing to do is make your MPEG and ac3 files in Compressor, and then bring THOSE files into DVDSP. Just because DVDSP can also convert to MPEG too, doesn’t mean it’s the best tool for the job.

Much appreciated! Btw, the Studio Pro was a file size error. 5.1 GB. Is there anything you can do in Studio Pro to combat that?

What’s happening is your MPEG and .ac3 files are too large for DVD since DVDs are only 4.7GB.

If you’re using DVD SP to make the MPEG and .ac3, which I suggested you don’t do, then you need to go into DVD SP Preferences and lower the bit rate. Delete the files from your Assets tab (the files that were too large) and re-import your reference or self contained file so DVDSP can re-encode.

Ok, I’m currently encoding it, but it still says 5.1 GB? Will it encode to the correct size?

Sorry, I meant to “a” correct size.

Check that! I played around some more and got it to 4GB.

    Thank you!
