    We have recently purchased a brand-spanking new Panasonic AJ-HD1400 DVCProHD VTR. It’s nice and shiny.

    Here’s were we’re at currently. We have many tapes shot at 25P (over 60P) in a couple of Panasonic Varicams. This deck natively supports that format. It has a special setting for it called ’25HD’ which sets the system frequency to 25Hz and, apparently, output 720/25p over Firewire and HD-SDI while generating nice 25FPS timecode.

    There appears to be NO way to capture this into FCP. The FCP DVCPRO HD 720/25p settings expect a deck operating in 50Hz, which it’s not. As it was shot 25 over 60, putting it into 50Hz simply means it won’t play the tape.

    If I switch the deck to 60Hz (making it operating like a AJ-HD1200 basically, spitting out all the frames) I am still out of luck, because FCP is expecting a 50Hz signal.

    The only option has been to get a Decklink HD Extreme, which will allow us to capture 25P over 60P via HD-SDI, however in this mode the deck is generating 30FPS timecode (which is apparently not all that accurate anyway).

    So, the AJ-HD1400 is Panasonic’s latest offering. FCP 6.0.1 is Apple’s latest offering. Am I going to be completely unable to capture the native 720/25p signal from the deck via Firewire, or am I just missing something?

    I’ve been sitting here in front of this for at least 6 hours now, and I am making NO forward progress. So far the ONLY setting I have working is playback in 60Hz mode from the deck, over HD-SDI to Decklink HD Extreme, capturing 25p with 30FPS timecode.
