    Hey all,

I’m kinda clutching at straws, but maybe someone can help…

I have some video footage that was shot on a Panasonic HVX-202. The footage was copied to a portable HD which is now sitting in a folder on my MacPro HD.

My dilemma is that I cannot seem to import these files into FCP 6. Looking at all the various tutorials on the net and the tutorial by Shane Ross on Creative Cow, the Import P2 option seems to be already there. Mine however is not. I’ve tried downloading the drivers off of the Panasonic site as well as the link that Shane offers but still nothing.

I’ve also read that FCP 6 offers another method where instead of import you select ‘Log and Transfer’, but this doesnt seem to recognise the .mxf files that I have.

    Is there something I’m missing?

    My current specs are:

    MacPro (Intel)
    Mac OS X 10.4.10
    Final Cut Pro 6.0
Camera Panasonic HVX-202 (but we don’t have the camera, as it was a rental)

I would appreciate any info that anyone could give me as I’m at a dead end.

    Cheers,

    Marc

It is now called Log and Transfer instead of Import P2 in FCP6.

How are your MXF files stored?

    Gentlemen,

I was happily importing P2 footage in FCP 5 yesterday. This morning I upgraded to FCP 6. After a brief panic, I found the “Log and Transfer” window. I can see all my P2 folders and can preview them in the Log and Transfer window. But when I add them to the que I get an error message and a red exclamation point and the import stops.

I can work with any footage I had previosly imported (prior to upgrading to FCP 6). This indicates to me that FCP 6 is reading all the DVCPRO codecs just fine. But I can’t import anything new.

Is this a major bug in FCP 6? Has anyone successly imported P2 footage in FCP 6?

I too am having issues getting the P2 stuff to import in the new version of FCP. I have the red exclamation point as well. Any tips?

We’ve been importing on a separate machine running FCP 5.1.4. We have yet to get P2 media to import properly in FCP 6. Will post if we come across a solution…

I think that I have found the problem. Are your clip names long? Rename your clips to a short name. For some reason, if you try naming them a longer name you will get the exlamation.
