July 29, 2007 at 6:26 amGreat find Oliver. Unfortunately the statement “After the original sequence has been been re-rendered, it will stay rendered after you quit Final Cut Pro and re-open the project” is just not true. I’ve re rendered my original timeline many times just to discover that it became unredered again. Oh well. I’m sure they are working on it.
Best.

July 29, 2007 at 6:35 amI can so relate to you right now. I thought I had finished a sequence just the other day when I decided to check it at 1 AM. Ofcourse the rendered files were gone and the deadline was in the morning! I had to peicemeal the program back together from previously saved project files then export a self contained file. A re render would have taken four hours with all the filters.
That said, the mixed timeline and Pro Res developments are a godsend. This is not a 5.5 release in my opinion but that’s because I use those features so much now.
Peace!

July 29, 2007 at 2:02 pm[avidzombie] “6 should really be called 5.5”
I disagree. There’s a lot in there, such as Smoothcam, open timeline, Motion templates, additional menu features.
[avidzombie] “AVID consolidate, decompose is beautiful! Media Mangler is not.”
Never had any major problems with it. Time remapping and freezes – yes, an issue. Otherwise, it’s worked fine.
[avidzombie] “would it make sense to establish a Forum for Development/Wishlist”
Use the “Provide Feedback” items inside FCP to send Feature Requests. It’s already built into their web page form.
[avidzombie] “take AVID over FCP any day with its robust media database architecture”
Except that they still can’t get a version of MC Adrenaline or MC Soft out the door that doesn’t break something that was working in the previous version.

I can’t remember how it worked for me, but part of the issue may be that Apple can’t reproduce some of the exact same issues we are having. Apparently not everyone is having these problems. I suspect what’s in the document represents what they’ve been able to replicate.

July 29, 2007 at 3:01 pm[avidzombie] “I miss:….
…….to name a few…”All great points and I agree 100%. In all fairness though, there are a ton of FCP features I would put on a list for Avid if I were making feature requests for Media Composer.
They are simply two different products with strengths and weaknesses. I’d love better user features, too, but there are bigger fish to fry in the future, like compatibility will all the various tapeless formats ahead. XDCAM and P2 were just the beginning.
Having gone through a week where quite a few folks in town coincidentality lost media files because FW or SATA stripes became corrupt, I’d love to see more reliable, inexpensive media.

This is the issue with duplicated sequences I’d posted before.
Sincerely,
Oliver”Im interested in what Apple says, but I cant see anything after your words “From Apple:” Is there a link ? Or a document regarding this issue?
Thanks much

September 18, 2007 at 7:58 pmWe did a fresh install of the OS (os x 10.4.10) and a fresh install of FCP 6.0.1 and are having the problem where we open up a project at random times all the render files are gone.

September 18, 2007 at 8:12 pmYep. Me too. But not ALL the render files – the effect is random. You never know what render file is going to go AWOL or when.
It’s maddening.
Harry.
