  • FCP 6 dropping .mov extension on import

    Hi,

I FCP 6 when i import Quicktimes FCP is dropping the .mov extension.
I have media that I want to reconnect and due to the FCP clip name not matching the .mov file name, I have to manually reconnect each clip seperately.
Does anyone know of a way to import Quicktime clips into FCP 6 and keep the .mov extension?
Ie the FCP clip name is identical to the actual file name.

    Thanks.

In FCP 6.x, there is a command to rename the media file to match the clip name or rename the clip to match the media file name…I think its in the Tools Menu (not in front of a system now).

    That should do the trick.

I think FCP ignores the .mov extension because ALL video files actually have it (but its usually hidden by the OS)

I’ve had no issues reconnecting imported media. FCP is not dropping the .mov extension, it’s just not showing it.
If you’re having trouble reconnecting, you’re probably going to be looking for another problem with your media storage.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

We’re using Raylight. It makes QT Reference clips ending with blahblah.MXF.mov
We are logging those clips on one machine with FCP 6.0.1 and when you bring them in FCP drops the .mov extension ( It doesn’t do this prior to FCP 6 ) Then we export a Batch List which the editor opens up on another machine with FCP 6.0.2. Problem is that unless we manually add the .mov extension to the clip names in FCP, when we open the Batch List the clips don’t reconnect.
Basically I just want FCP to bring the clips in and keep the same name as the file name.
