When I place VO/Music into my timeline I sometimes have to render. When I then change the duration of the edit and re-render the section the sync skips if you will, i.e. it plays normal then jumps to a different section of the aif then reconnects/syncs again somewhere later….
Does anyone else experience this problem or is there a preference setting that I’m missing?

any audio that you have to render in FCP is questionable.

How many tracks are you working with?

If you are using mp3’s or equally compressed audio, convert it to either WAV or AIFF. You may also be having sample rate conflicts. you want your audio to be 48k preferably.

Also, if you are using more tracks than your system is set to handle in realtime that will cause the need to render.

You can change this in the user preferences.

    – less than 8 at any given time

    – I usually avoid mp3’s at all costs and the audio sample rate is 48k and is an .aiff

I think my real question is… why does it change my sync when just extending the edit?
I understand the technical issues around matching the sequence to my audio sample rate but I don’t understand why when working in a piece that is around 30 min, if I trim my audio bridge by a few frames, double check the render and audio from another section becomes out of sync.
This is bad when trying to get a project ready for export and not trusting your own edit.

My most successful way to fix the problem is to do a global reconnect.

Those are really the only reasons, that I know of, that cause a need for audio to be rendered. As far as losing sync after an edit, that isn’t a compressed audio track or sub par sample rate, you may be unintentionally slipping picture or audio when trimming.

How are you performing your trim edits? there are certain trim functions that slip picture.

This happens to me on occasion. It is happening now in fact. It happens with narration I have recorded in to my timeline and then failed to grab it and put it in a bin before editing with it. It also happens with music. If I place a portion of a song, M4A into my time line and then render it because it is 44.1 and needs to be 48, the song sometimes slips and I suddenly no longer have the same part of the song in place. This has happened to me at the worst times, like when I’m completely done with a show and am turning it in to my EP for final approval, and after performing a final render, the audio is all messed up, with what sounds like I made crazy audio edits.

Anyone know what this is let me know.
