Ok got a new MacPro with a fresh (legit) copy of FCP. I though with a new machine I would be past the stupid quirky FCP buggyness!

Waveforms are non existent on the timeline and in the viewer:

-When a sequences prefs are set to “show audio waveforms” all I get is “x’s” in the timeline
-When an audio clip is viewed in the viewer all I get is funky black backgrnd with lines, or I can “see through” the viewer window, or the viewer window is blank, etc etc etc I dont see any waveforms

Final Cut Projects brought between an Intel and Power PC machine (both running FCP 5.1.4):

    -Fonts automatically change to “#Gungseo”
-Clips on the timeline will mysteriously have a flash frame of an entirely different clip (this can be remedied when the clip is deleted and then thrown back on the timeline, but WTF?)
-When a sequence is played the video in the canvas goes haywire (different images of video flash like crazy throughout) but the sequence’s audio plays normally.

    Before you respond:
-Yes I’ve trashed prefs, restarted computer/program
-This happens on multiple machine both PowerPC and Intel not just one.

    Thanks!

Don’t get any of that at all on my systems I’m afraid. Reinstall the OS and FCP if you can.

I forgot to add this is happening on brand new and “old” recently re-installed OS and FCP Machines

(when I say new I mean like 3 weeks new, this is what is causing my frustration!)

    Thanks for the input!

OK then give us more specifics about your systems, video cards, RAM, hard drives etc.

I’d trash all of your render files and cahces and start again.

if necessary export an XML of your PPC project, start a new fresh intel project, import the XML and recapture.

There were some problems between PPC and intel projects and especially media.

I can certainly say that I’ve had none of those issues what so ever. However I never continue on with projects started in different versions of FCP. I always wait until it is finished until I switch. This might have something to do with your problems.
For me version 5.14 has been one of the most stable releases I’ve ever used. So far not one crash.

Since it’s happening on all your systems and they’re all different, and it’s not happening on anyone elses, then the common denominator is you. Perhaps there is something you put on the systems. A plugin you love. A control panel. A driver. A disk utility. Virus software. Must be something.

I’m running all of the latest updates and I’m not seeing these issues… other than the Waveform issue. But that’s easily overcome by deleting your waveform files before starting FCP. This issue only relates to cross-platform (G5-Intel).
