I have been experimenting with the Kona LHe and the Sony ADW-F500 for a long form job coming next week…. Let me prep that I’m new to HD but been editing since ’88. The smallest data rate I’ve gotten is using 8 bit uncompressed codec that’s standard to the mac. Is there a kona codec that is native to the board or is a better solution than what I’m using?
The only codecs that come up are:
aja kona 10bit- log rgb codec, aja kona 10bit rgb codec, aja kona 2vuy codec.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Use the AJA Kona DVCPRO HD Easy Setup appropriate for the flavor of HD your footage is in.

The file size is smaller than uncompressed SD, you get lots of RT and great picture quality.

Dont bother offlining at an SD resolution.

I should add that it doesn’t matter that you shot HDCAM…its perfectly okay to use DVCPRO HD as an editing codec.

I agree with John. Unless if you need to make SD screener DVDs, then one advantage is to offline at DV quality since the compressing time would be less than using DVCPro HD.

Another endorsement for that codec. It is awesome. Not sure if the LHE can downconvert to SD, but that is definitely the way to go.

Our company just got a raid and the Kona LHe it works perfect, down converts to DVCPROHD no sweat. The kona comes with presets for FCP…
