    Hello Guys,

I am digitizing 84 clips of HDV into FCP 5.0.4 and it gets stuck in and around 7 minutes worth of material. I then Com. period out and it crashes… I have rebooted, copy and pasted clips into a new bin, deleted suspect clips, etc… but nothing seems to work. Next I will log clips again from scratch.

Any ideas???? Do I trash prefs??? if so which ones??? Any help is much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Prio

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

    Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

Thanks Matte! I have had a day from hell!!!! I did do the Prefs dump but I still have the problem. It seems that it is responding to a particular set of clips by just crapping out.. It will digitize some clips and compltely QUIT on others.

I’ve tried relogging the clips, logging and then digitizing a clip, doing a “press play & manual digitize” … but nothing works… FCP continues to quit… I am at wits end!!!

    Any additional ideas???

One thing I have done in the past if I have not already started cutting the clips is to export a batch list of the problem clips and reimport it. Then capture. It seems that exporting a batch list cleans some of the bad data from the clips somehow. If you have a sequence that these bad clips link to, you could try exporting and EDL and recapturing that way.

    good luck!
