I’m trying to digitize DVCPRO50 media from a Panasonic AJ-SD93 deck via Firewire into Final Cut Pro 5.0.4. Computer is a G5 with 10.4.

The problem I’m having is as follows: I’m in the Log&Capture window. If I hit play, the deck starts playing the tape but no video appears on the screen. The deck plays for about 3-5 seconds and then the computer freezes (spinning color wheel pops up). The only way to unfreeze the computer is to switch the deck into local and manually stop the tape, at which point the computer snaps out of it.

I have definitely gotten this setup to work perfectly before. However, I don’t work in this office every day, so I don’t know what, if anything has been changed since I was last here. I’ve tried restarting FCP, restarting the computer, restarting the deck, using a different Firewire cable; nothing works.

    Any thoughts?

Try switching the Easy Setup to something else and then switching it back to the the proper one for DVCPro50.

Use the “firewire basic” option instead of “firewire” under capture settings.
