    Hey all,

I just recently bought a new mac pro 8-core (dual 3.2 ghz) which came
with Leopard installed. I did a clean install of FCP 5.0.4 and began editing HD footage (720P) from an internal SATA Drive. I am able to cut for a little while, 20 minutes or so, then it crashes, usually while I’m scrubbing through the timeline. After I Force Quit, the app window disappears but the app is still running in the finder. It won’t let me Force Quit out of the app. Please Help.?!

Is FCP 5 compatible with Leopard?

Do I need to upgrade to FCS 2?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Your version of FCP (5.0) is not compatible with the intel processor on your new computer. 5.1 is compatible with the Intel but not 5.0.

Honestly I am surprised that the FCP even installs and opens on your machine.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

If you really are running FCP 5.0.4, that is not a universal version of the software. FCP 5.1 was the first Universal version which means it’s designed to run on Intel machines.

I would strongly recommend you upgrade to Studio 2.

Thanks for your prompt replies Zane & Walter, I appreciate it.

So I think it’s time for me to upgrade to FC Studio 2 – been itching to
check out Color anyway. So there’s my answer.

    Thanks again.

    Walter,

I’ve done a clean install of Final Cut Studio 2 as you suggested.
However, now FCP crashes every 10 – 20 minutes usually
while I’m scrubbing or working within the timeline. The footage is 720P
captured from a P2 card in the .MXF format.

FCP won’t force quit either, so I have to do a hard re-boot every time
    it happens.

I’ve trashed my preferences, repaired/verified disk permissions, created a new user but nothing’s worked so far.

    Any suggestions?
