OK, don’t know the cause, & I’m hoping I won’t have to chase it down, but here’s what happened:

I decided to go back & see if I could shorten the ceremony of a wedding I’m cutting. 2 clips were out of sync. They originated from the same camera, but on separate tapes. OK, synch shit happens, so I look at the timecode overlay in the Canvas to see how far I have to slip the audio and… the timecode matches!? Not to worry, I do a quick match frame & Replace Edit on the audio tracks & they’re back in synch. I’m happy. Puzzled, but happy. Except I now have to check most of the project for synch. OY!!

FWIW, the material is DV, captured from my warhorse DSR-11 via the trademark Arniepix method of logging the head & tail of the tape & batch capturing. It’s on an internal SATA in a dual 2.5. The only change since starting the project was this morning’s update from FCP 5.0 to 5.0.2. (Yes, yes, it serves me right to have upgraded in the middle of the project.)
