FCP 5 Voiceover Tool and BM Extreme
Hi all,
this is my first post to this forum. I hope you might be able to help me with a problem we are having with a new system we have installed. For some time we have been running a dual G5 2GHz machine with an Extreme card fitted. On this machine we have been able to use the FCP voiceover tool by routing the input from the recording mic through the G5’s audio line input. By selecting this input in the voiceover tool we can run the tool and still get video output through the BM card.
We recently bought a second dual G5 2GHz machine (the old model, not the one with compatability issues)with an Extreme card for a second suite that had a G4 Cinewave system (another story). We can’t use this system in the same way. In the Apple system tools audio setup we can see audio level, but can’t get it to come through in the voiceover tool. The only way we can currently use the voiceover tool is by turning off external video (I believe this is the way Apple want you to use the tool) which makes it useless for ADR and similar processes. We have been able to use Soundtrack to record but as we are novices with this product it would be better for us to use FCP.
I have communicated with BM about this and they have not been able to replicate it. Note that even when we turn off external video the FCP tool is still challenging to use because if the external video monitor shows anything, including the desktop, the tool doesn’t work. Getting the monitor to show nothing requires opening and closing windows until the screen goes black!
Any contributions would be gratefully received.
