I’m a new convert to FCP, having edited on Media100 for the last 8 years. I’m excited about the move and very impressed with FCP and its capabilities. In fact, I just bought Final Cut Pro 5 Studio. However, I also just realized that, in reality, my trusty G4 Dual 1.42 Ghz etc. really won’t run the FCP Studio efficiently and have decided to get a G5.

    Here’s my dilemna. I can

You want the 2.3 or 2.7… they have faster motherboards than the 2.0 machine does. the 2.7 will render faster, and give you more RT preview, but editing in general on either should feel the same pretty much… Mom always said though, you can’t get too much computer, too much RAM or too fast a display card for running Motion…

Thank you Jerry for your help. It made a lot of sense to me. So I was looking to the 2.3 when I found a pretty good deal on a 2.5. Seems a fair compromise between the 2.3 and the 2.7. I hope I made a right choice since you hadn’t referenced the 2.5 but all in all I’m pretty pleased. I added a gig of memory and will add more later. Thanks again.
