Hi – i’m having problems with a slow startup of FCP 5. It takes around 1-2 minutes to start up each time.
It didn’t do this when i first installed it.

I searched on here and found this post below, but wasn’t sure what it meant – can anyone explain this, or suggest why my system takes so long to start?

System: dual G5 1.8’s. 1.5GB RAM, Latest OS, FCP 5

    Cheers.

Since yesterday, FCP takes a good long time to startup. I don’t think it has anything to do with corrupt preferences as versions 4.1 and 4.5 are doing the same thing. Once they finally load they work fine. Has any one experienced this?

Okay I found it. It was the Quicktime mpeg2 component.

It seemed to happen with the last update of Quicktime, and I knew I found the cause when I uninstalled the mpeg2 component (note that if haven’t purchased mpeg2 from Apple you need to look elsewhere for an explanation) and FCP loaded much quicker. However, quicker wasn’t better, as the consequence was that FCP could no longer handle mpeg2 segments in the timeline. So I reinstalled mpeg2 and now wait patiently while FCP takes longer to load. If you find a real solution please let us know.
