  • FCP 5 settings for 30f HDV — have read everything I can find!

    Hi,

I’ve spent all afternoon skimming forum after forum and have decided it’s time to beg for help. I’m the proud owner of a new Canon XH-A1. There are several postings on capturing 24f, but not 30f. I have FCP 5.0.4.

The canon manual says 30f records progressive and outputs signals converted into 60fps interlaced. This is somewhat confusing to me. (Is it just copying frames for interlacing?) But it would seem then that the following settings are applicable:

    Capture: HDV 1080i 60, 29.97 (NTSC)
Sequence: 1440 * 1080 (both aspect and pixels)
    Compressor: HDV 1080i 60

Can someone please confirm these are the best settings so I don’t have to recapture if and when I upgrade to FCP 6 (too expensive at the moment). For example, does FCP 6 or 5.1.4 have a setting for HDV 1080 30p (or f)?

I’ve read all about nesting and transferring the finished cut to 8 bit or ProRes for final graphics. It’s just the capturing that I need to figure out now.

    Thanks for your help!

    Sammy
