Here we go again….I usually playback from my timeline via my HVR-M25 deck. Now when playing DV via firewire into the machine, the deck sees and playsback for 3 seconds or so and then pixelates. I have tried resetting PRAMS, SMU’s, FWUTIL, Flashing the deck and every other thing under the sun and still have no playback. I have also checjed this with a Z1 on the output and get the same thig so it’s not the deck. Any brave ideas ? Too much work to be messing about !

Try trashing the FCP Preferences. Make sure everything is DV (sequences, output, etc) and change out the firewire cable because they do go bad, not very often but it happens.

    Hi Drew

Yep…done that ! no joy, I’m going through the FWutil on the developers toolkit again. Fingers ( and knees ) crossed !

Did you by chance hot plug the firewire cable to the deck? I’ve seen that happen when I did. If so, try restarting the computer and make sure the deck is off before plugging in the cable. That cleared up the problem for me.

Thanks David…after a full day of trying everything – I have decided that Gin is the only answer, so I’ll try again in the morning! many thanks for the advice.

Are you playing HDV mateiral? That doesn’t work in realtime to monitor on an external monitor.

If you’re playing DV material, be sure to force set the deck to DV, not Auto. There are three settings on my 15U which are Auto, DV and HDV. I never use Auto as sometimes the deck will switch off to the one I don’t want and then you get no video signal.
