Whenever I try to play the timeline in FCP 5 the program hesitates and then starts to play with the audio out of sync and everything basically looks like a mess. I have a similar problem with Soundtrack Pro. Whenever I start to play a project that I am working on the sound starts to delay, repeat, lag, whatever for about 30 seconds and will in no way play normally. However this does not happen when I play back the sound effects. Note: This feels like a RAM or buffer type of issue. This happens no matter what type of drive the media is located on. I also just did a clean install of the OS yesterday and have updated everything and reinstalled all my applications.

Well, I have noticed that problem myself and I have two totally differnt systems. One is a G4 Dual 1 gig processors with 1.5 gig of RAM. The other is a G5 Dual 2.7 gig processors with 4.5 gig of RAM. I see that same effects on both systems.

Hey did you notice it affecting other aspects of your computer? Other programs? Have you checked your processor usage in activity monitor or done a hardware test? – Jeremy

Yes, I did notice the lagging throughout the computer. One of my computers (the G5) is only a month old now, so I don’t believe its the computers. It does make since to ask but one is three years old and the other is one month old and it does the same thing on both computers. Both computers do have AJA boxes attached (an Io and a Kona2). But I’m not sure that has anything to do with it.

Well I took my computer into the apple store today to get it looked at, so i’ll let you know what they come back with. It seems to be a hardware issue unfortunately. – Jeremy
