  • FCP 4.5 on a MacPro?

I think I already know the answer to this but is is possible to run FCP version 4.5 on a new MacPro computer?
We produce half hour studio shows for a local hospital. When recording the show, we both record to a MiniDV deck and capture to a G5 running FCP 4.5. The G5 recently went down and it was deemed more cost effective to buy a new MacPro rather than repairing the G5. But we are stuck with FCP 4.5 for the time being.
All we use this computer for is to capture a live studio show to an external FW drive which is then taken back to our building for post production.
Will 4.5 run on an Intel machine?
    Thanks,
    Tom

FCP 4.5 is PowerPC only. Having said that, however, it may be possible to run it on an Intel machine using Rosetta. Until someone posts some first hand knowledge concerning this, I’d at least try it and see what happens. If it doesn’t fly, then you’ll have to upgrade. But if it does work then you’ve saved some money now, but will have to upgrade in the near future.

Rosetta with Intel will be somewhat slower than having FCP 4.5 running natively on a G5.

No you cannot run it under rosetta. For an intel machine you MUST have FCP 5.1
