  • FCP 4.5 / MBP / LEOPARD conflict ?

    Hi Folks,

Stuck with Digital Cinema Desktop – Main ! (or none…)

I’ll try here too: I started a long FCP Pro Forum thread Dec. 3 about External Monitor missing on Video Playback drop-down menu in View as well as A/V Settings. Despite all the greatly appreciated efforts, the only reasonable clue yet was offered by Bill Dewald who said “4.5 on Leopard could very well be the culprit”. Can anyone confirm this conflict and explain why? Marc Dewey and I can hardly be the only ones to be working that configuration and faced with that problem. We both would like to choose which screen we get a full screen Previewing on. Like we explained in the aforementioned thread, we’ve tried all the available Mac Display settings in the Preferences to no avail. We’re stuck with previewing full screen on the primary screen (in my case the MBP). Thanks for your brainstorming!

    Regards from Hamburg,

Yea that’s not going to work. MBPs have intel processers and only FCP 5.1 or newer is compatible with any mac intel machines.

I’m suprised that the computer even let you install v4.5.

You are going to need a newer version of FCP if you want to use your computer with final cut.

    Hi Zane,

Thanks for your reply. Well guess what? It runs like hell, smooth as can be, with only that drawback about not recognizing the external screen on the Playback drop-downs. DVDSP3 does too by the way.All I did was follow the wonderful instructions to import my G4 content to my MBP. It took about an hour, and the only problem I had was I needed to readdress FCP to the new graphics processor. Whether that’s any good to anyone else I don’t know. But I take your word for it and won’t be surprised if run into problems. You can help by telling me if I can upgrade to 5.1 without upgrading the whole suite to version 2. It’s a matter of finances, obviously.

    Many thanks, best regards.

Sounds luke you did a migration not a install from disks. When u said I’m suprised it would install that means from the disks not from a migration.

Also keep in mind that some componants of FCP do not migrate over and there for cause problems.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
