fcp 4.5 imports used to not have jaggies-now FCP5 JAGGIES
I don’t know much about after effects, so be nice. Our art director has a VAST knowledge, but can’t figure this out.
I’d like to impress him, please help! The art director at the company I work for used to do all the chroma keying for our final cut pro systems. We would strip off all effects, then export clips for him to create key & alpha, send it through QT pro (QT pro may have been the next step after fcp, all this was done before I joined) then import back to fcp and viola crystal clear keys every time. Now that fcp and quicktime has been updated, we get jagged edges no matter what we do. I have solved our chroma key problem with zmatte for fcp, but now anytime we try to export ANYTHING to AE, it adds severe jagged edges. We use DV50 codec, but don’t blame that, cause it used to work perfectly, so its not the codec.
The work around we’ve been using is to have a dual boot that allows us to run our older versions of QT & fcp. Works like a champ, however as you may imagine that a big huge pain in the butt and we need a much more productive solution.Current working example…I’m working on an ID tag where our talent knocks on the inside of the tv screen and says “pay attention”. I wanted to add a little bulge and lighting effect where he is knocking. I composited the talent (blue screen) over a moving background, then exported to AE. I created the bulge and lighting effect and I was pretty happy with it and it looked good (no jaggies) in AE, then exported as animation codec. Import into fcp and JAGGIES.
Comments, theories or suggestions appreciated.
What am I missing?
