FCP 4.5 HD not recognizing the SONY CMOS HDV
HI!
I need some help importing from the Sony CMOS HDV into FCP 4.5. It seems that 4.5 won’t
recognize the camera for some reason, and each time I start FCP 4.5 it says:“Unable to locate following
external devices
DVCPRO HD 1080i60
(1920 x 1080) DVCPRO HD out”So I hit continue and FCP 4.5 starts up. Then I go to “LOG AND CAPTURE” and
I have machine control(I can fast forward or rewind) but I cannot view the video
on the preview. I checked to make sure that“Capture card supports Simultaneous
Play Thru and Capture”Is enabled in the Capture preset Editor Menu. Please help!!!

FCP 4.5 doesn’t do HDV, nor recognize HDV cameras. You need FCP 5 for that.
And the DVCPRO codec isn’t what HDV uses.

FCP 4.5 does not support HDV, only DVCPro HD which is a totally different format. FCP 4.5 will not transcode HDV to DVCPro HD in real time over firewire.
Either upgrade to FCP 5 or check into lumiere hd which will help you edit HDV in FCP 4.5 after a process of digitizing and transcoding.
