  • FCP 4.5 HD – After Project Opens, It Shuts Itself Down Again

I’m in post-production of a film using a Powerbook G4, DVBox 320GB external drive and FCP 4.5 HD. I have about 80GB’s of space left on the external and 40 of an original 80GB’s left on my mac hardrive.

Recently, at fairly random moments when working on my project, a window has popped up saying there’s another version of FCP with the same serial number in use on my network and that it would have to shut FCP down. In the past, I’ve clicked ‘okay’ and actually been able to continue working.

Today, however, after working fine all morning on the film I left the project open and went for lunch. When I returned, I had the same warning window pop up and then when I pressed ‘okay’ the window asking me if I’d like to save changes before I shut down popped up. I pressed ‘no’ and it shut my project down. Since then, I’ve not been able to open my project – If I click on the project in my external drive, the first warning window about the serial number comes up, then my project goes through the rigmarole of opening, then the ‘would you like to save before shutting down’ window comes up with only the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ options available – for instance, it won’t allow me to press ‘cancel’.

This afternoon I repaired and verified disk permissions on my computer hardrive and and repaired and verified my external hardrive disk too. It didn’t fix the problem. I also turned off bluetooth incase any other Apple users in the building were somehow creating a ‘interference’ of some kind. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong and how to try fixing it?

    Cheers,

This means that ANOTHER COPY of FCP…with the same serial number, is in use on the network. You cannot install one copy of FCP on multiple machines…that is a violation of the Apple agreement.

No one has installed my version of FCP onto their computer. Also, I’ve been working off this same version for two years without this problem and have also been using it in this space for three months without this problem. How could they have installed it with my serial number without the CD? Are you talking about through a network?

If some one acquired your serial, they can use it to enter as a serial for an upgrade. Check your records. If you are on a network, then yes it will shut down the computer when someone else is on it.
YOU CAN by the way put FCP on ONE Desktop and ONE Portable computer. BUT THAT IS IT. And still then it shuts down one or the other when both are open.
And if any of these things are not in your case, call apple and see what’s going on. Good Luck.

I’m having a similar problem. I was working all week with no problems on a brand new machine. I just moved to the area from the other side of the country, and nobody else has my serial or network password.
I was having a problem reviewing a flash video I made and downloaded the a player suggested in this thread:https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/190/862427

The install seemed to crash, I rebooted, and now I get the error. There are NO other computers on my network! The error is clearly being generated by mistake.
I have trashed FCP preferences, repaired permissions, reset the PRAM to no avail.

    Any thoughts?
