  • FCP 4.5 Having trouble recapturing Beta SP

Posted by Ian Shipley on March 27, 2006 at 7:36 pm

We’ve been having problems trying to recapture our media back in the time line in FCP. All the time codes in the media bin all read 00:00:00:00. Which does seem impossible since the the tapes all start at 1 frame. We attempt to reconnect the media and the Beta deck can’t find the beginning. It seems no matter where I start the media capture on the Beta tapes it always reads at 00:00:00:00 in the project. Is there something I’m not doing correctly? I would guess this my error and not the softwares. Thanks for the help.

if you captured originally using firewire and a non-controllable device
you did not capture with Timecode and that is why all your clips read 00:00:00:00

if you want to Recapture clips you Must first capture with RS 422 Control from deck

    Jim,
We capture all footage from a sony uvw-1800 using rs-422. the problem lies in the recapture of a project. Everything has timecode to start with. It seems FCP just starts all the media clips 00:00:00:00 in the project. The beta deck never get to that number. Any other thoughts are welcomed.

Unfortunately if all of the orig. captured clips start with 00:00:00:00
then one of your settings was wrong and you did not capture with Time Code from deck.

Im sorry but Im not at my setup with PVW 2800 Machine right now, so can’t be of much help.
But what Card are you using to capture Beta SP?

When you beta deck is set to manual, then you hit play on the deck, then capture now in FCP, you do not get time code. The deck has to be on remote.

Could that be what you did initially?

    Adam,
The Beta has to be in remote and controlled by rs-422 or it will not capture at all. I wonder if on the intial capture I need to start about 30 seconds to a minute in to establih enough timecode.

    Thanks,
    Ian
