FCP 4.5 and Premiere on the same computer?
Just a quick question. I know I saw this same question on the cow a few weeks ago, but I’ll be darned of I can find it.
I’m helping out by setting up an editing system for our local D.A.R.E program. They have been editing all their videos using Premiere but now they want to move over to Final Cut Pro. They’ve been running Premiere 6.5 (I think) on an older G4. They’ve bought a G5 and FCP. (Actually almost a year ago!)
During the changeover, they’d like to be able to run both FCP and Premiere on the same computer since it will be their only computer. They will use both programs until they feel comfortable using FCP alone. Is it “safe” to run both programs on the same platform without conflicts?
The computer is a Dual 1.8 with 2Gig ram and OS 10.3.8. There is, at this time, no plan to move up to Tiger, FCP5 or QT7. Were just going to stick to 10.3.8, & FCP4.5. Hmmm…Is it still possible to upgrade to only 10.3.8 anyway? 10.3.9 seems a bit buggy on some systems with FCP 4.5.
My plan is to do a clean install of the OS, wiping the HD and starting from scratch. All the applications will be installed after that. They only have one HD internal in the machine, but they do run an external Firewire drive for their media, which is all DV format.
Right now, they are running only one monitor, but I’m doing my best to convince them to get another one from somewhere. I’d go crazy trying to edit on a single monitor.
Virtually all of their finished projects go out to DVD for distribution to the schools that participated in the D.A.R.E program (a great program for kids, BTW)
Their setup is a little unconventional, but it works for them.Anyone have both FCP & Premiere running on the same computer? Any problems?
Thanks for any input.
Tom
