FCP 4.5 and alpha channel stills/clips
I’m adding bugs to a “classic” program, and occasionally the bug needs to pop out to reveal the date. I made the date bugs in After Effects 6.0, using the Animation codec, millions of colors-plus, alpha channel straight. At the same time, I rendered a single frame of the bug, to show for the rest of the time when the bug isn’t swirling about.
Now that I’ve brought it into Final Cut Pro 4.5, I think this is going to send me bonk-os. I’ve tried all manner of settings–changing the alpha channel mode for the clip, for the still… I’ve even hit a Shift-N to make a still frame of the animation itself, within Final Cut Pro. And still there’s a dramatic change in the bug’s appearance when we go from the still to the motion.
To make it all the odder, this looked close to OK when I viewed it from the timeline, and WAY off when I prepared the sample clip in Compressor. What I care the most about is NTSC, but right now I’m not able to preview it that way.
