A client wants to update a rather bulky long-form project that was originally posted on earlier versions of FCP. When opening the project on my G5 with all the latest hardware and software, what problems should I expect to encounter? What should I do to get up and running in the best and most efficient way?

In a previous post someone mentioned unmounting all media the first time the project is opened, then shutting down and reopening the project to mount the media drives. Is this an important step?

BTW, we’re not recutting the enire show, just adding an epilogue, so its not crucial that every filter, every transition, every speed change be perfect if thats normally an issue. More importantly, we need to access all the original logs and media…

    TIA,
    DRW

The only step I take is to duplicate the project file and open up the copy. That way the original is intact should I need it.

I’ve never had any problems, though, so maybe I’m just lucky. I don’t know anything about needing to un-mount the media, but I’m guessing whoever came up with that did so for a reason.
