  • FCP 4.0 Crashing – XL-H1 Downconvert Capture

Posted by Hepkat on May 20, 2006 at 4:13 pm

FCP 4.0 is crashing (spinning color wheel of death) when attempting XL-H1 60i Downconvert Capture. As soon as I click “CAPTURE NOW” the large capture screen appears, but it is blank and the color wheel spins away.

It takes three Force Quits to initiate an exit from FCP.

I tried capturing 30P from XL-H1 and achieved same results.

About a month ago, this same system and camera did capture @ 30P XL-H1 downconverted without any problem.

    Anyone ??? Help!!!

FCP 4.0 does not recognize HDV. Not even when you try to downconvert. FCP 4.0 is too outdated to recognize that camera…even for DV capture.

You need to upgrade to FCP 5.1

I continued testing and found that the crashes continue, even when trying to capture DV footage from a MiniDV cam. Downconverted 30P results in the same crash. Same blank capture interface and same color wheel of death result when I click Capture Now.

I trashed my preferences. No help.

Also, I have sucessfully captured, on this FCP 4.0 system, XL-H1 downconverted footage (30P) prior to this series of crashes.
