I have a project that was shot in DVCPROHD 720p30 with 4 channels of audio.

After Logging and Transferring all of the media, I created OfflineRT versions of all of the clips. No problem there.

The offline editor used FCP4 for his edit. He also has to run an old version of ProTools with an Audio Media III card, so he’s limited to QuickTime 6.3…hence the reasoning behind still using FCP4.

Now, when opening the FCP4 project file in FCP6, I can reconnect the media with the original clips, but I cannot seem to force FCP to recognize all 4 channels of audio in each QT movie.

I understand that this is due to the limitations of FCP4 and it’s not knowing about more than 2 channels of audio per QT clip, but shouldn’t I be able to reconnect the media in FCP 6 and restore the missing audio tracks?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jon

If they really are multi-channel, open them up
in sound track pro and export each one separately.

or have them export each track as a separate stem and bring it in that way.
they might also be able to export an .xml that you could import, that
might bring it in as well. you have several options to try.

I’ve yet to actually bring in a multi-channel quicktime successfully.
(no surprise there) the next version of quicktime is supposed to fix this.

Once connected to the DVCPROHD files, you could just perform a match frame, and edit all the channels back in with a replace edit.. not too bad if we’re talking less than a zillion edits…

Thanks guys. Using Match Frame (f) worked like a charm. Only 8-10 clips per spot so it was virtually painless to replace the clips in the timeline.
