    Hi,

I’m sitting down to begin editing my first shoot since installing the new 24p firmware update. I just have a few questions on the Final Cut Pro 7 workflow options. I’m living in PAL land and I’m looking for the best ProRes 422 custom settings in FCP.

    – What ProRes 422 setting is best to convert footage to?
    – Once transcoded into ProRes which settings are best used in the sequence presets to customize?
    – Does anyone have an exact breakdown of their settings in the sequence preset editor?

Many Thanks, hope my questions are clear.

What camera are you shooting with?
    What format are you shooting?
To what media are you recording to?

There are 4 quality levels to Pro-res.

    Pro-Res:
    Proxy
    Lite
    422
    4444

The final output of your finished piece will dictate which quality level u should be at.
Which ever one you encode @ – just set your sequence settings to match.

    Hi,

I’ve shot the video on my 5d Mark II, in 24fps, and saved it all on my HDD, as I speak I’m converting the files into Prores 422 in MPEG Streamclip. I’m looking for the best sequence custom settings to edit these files in FCP 7,

    Thanks

Don’t use MPEG STREAMCLIP…use LOG AND TRANSFER and FCP. Download the driver and do it right. Here’s the workflow:

What flavor of ProRes depends on final output. I mention options in the tutorial.

The sequence settings much match the footage settings EXACTLY. Always.

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for the video! I wish I watched it BEFORE I started filming. I did not copy over the file structure and am unable to use the Canon EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 in FCP.

    I shot on the 5D 1080p 24fps.
I live in the land of NTSC, not PAL like Daniel.

Since I messed up the data structure, what are the correct settings that I should use in Compressor? Will the “Apple ProRes 422 for Progressive Material” setting work just fine or do I need to make some tweaks?

I’m working on a documentary and have about 450 GB of footage that needs to be converted. I was planning on using a droplet, unless you have any other suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Vanessa

[Vanessa Lynn] “hat are the correct settings that I should use in Compressor? Will the “Apple ProRes 422 for Progressive Material” setting work just fine or do I need to make some tweaks?”

That would be spot on perfect. Or get Magic Bullet Grinder and drag the MOV files into it. Watch it do all the work, into the proper settings, and use ALL EIGHT CORES of the computer…if you have an 8-core machine. That is a great $49 droplet.

    Thanks!

I’ll check out Magic Bullet and see what magic it can do.

    I’m off to encode.

    Cheers,
    Vanessa
