I inherited an FCP project and every time I try to open it, it gives me a “GENERAL ERROR (41)”. All other projects open fine..any thoughts?

Also, I got some footage shot on P2 with Panasonic DVX-200 camera at 24 fps…do I make my edit sequence at 23.98 or 29.97…If it’s on 24fps, how do I convert it back to 30fps to burn to a DVD? If I create some elements in After Effects, do I render them in 24fps?

    Thank you in advance,

    Joe

The project file that won’t open is corrupt… you need to aquire a backup or another copy of this file. If it’s sent via email, it needs to be stuffed with stuffit or zipped in order to get it to open right in FCP.

The P2 import depends on the shooting format actually. there’s two of them that are 24 fps… one is 24pn, and the other is just 24p… which is it?

FWIW, you don’t need the material to become 29.97… DVD players will add back the pulldown to display a true 24fps DVD on a 29..97 set.

The video was shot in 24p…so, what happens if the sequence is then edited in 29.97 fps since I will be mixing some video elements that are 30fps…will the 24p video lookjittery on a 30fps sequence? What frame rate in the sequence settings would you use?

Sorry, I am new to FCP..

    thanks

24p is actually 29.97 with a pulldown pattern added. Just edit it all in a sequence which matches the 30fps material you’re editing. It will look a bit different, but not particularly more jittery… at least not more than 24fps usually looks. 24fps introduces judder that 29.97 material doesn’t exibit in general.

If you’re working in FCP 6, you actually could have taken 24pn material directly to a 29.97 sequence, and FCP will conform it to 29.97… but in your case, just go with a 29.97 sequence setting and you’ll be good to go.

    hi jerry-

hopefully you’re still monitoring this thread…

i’m about to do a project in 720p24 that will land in 29.97 and 720p. with that said, and having a film background, would using 24PN be a benefit, hindrance or non-factor for editing/delivery?

there will be some AE work added to certain clips. i would deliver the 720p version on a hard drive and the 29.97 version via Kona 2/DVCPro50.

    thoughts? ideas?

    thank you in advance,

    eric
