Hello. I’m trying to help out a friend who’s got a G4 running FCP 1.2 – yeah… (It’s so funny to see how primitive it was!)

Anyway – She just got a MBPro, but can’t afford FCP 6 or Studio. She’s mainly working in DV for the foreseeable future, so I’m thinking of recommending Final Cut Express for $200, but I’m stumped as to how to get her project transferred to the new system.

FCP 1.2 can export an EDL, but not XML – but I don’t think FC Express can read any of those anyway, can it? I think it can upgrade an iMovie file, but not an FCP file, (especially from version 1.2!)

I have a full FC Studio 2, which might be able to read the FCP file, but then how could I export it to something FC Express could read?

    Any ideas?

I’ve exported a level one XML from newer versions of FCP/

Then changed the extension manually to .fce

Drag on app icon and following the dialog boxes (worked on 3.5.. have not tried 4.0)
