Okay, here’s the deal: I recently shot a short on HDV 1080i w/o realizing that I need Final Cut Pro 5.14(?) to work on it. I captured the footage at my friend’s house (he has either v5.14 or v 5.17) but I really want to work on it here at home. I tried using Final Cut Express v4, which apparently works on HD, but the image fails to show up at all. What gives? It’s the same deal with my FCP v5. I even try to play the file in just Quick Time but it promps me with an error message saying that I need more applications to run the program, and it takes me to this website (https://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=OSX&ctype=696d6463&csubtype=68647636) Yet it doesn’t tell me which program I need to download. I have FCP v5.01 and short of having to shell out several grand for the new FCP 6 what should I do? Keep in mind I have a dl’d version of FC 🙂

You should try to recapture in Final Cut Express 4. This supports HDV. No clue why your camera didn’t show up since i have no idea what camera, what computer or how you’re attached.

You said it yourself, FCP 5.0 does not support HDV.

Really can’t help you with the limited information you’ve provided.

Hey, sorry for the lack of info, we used a Canon XH-A1 HDV Camcorder and captured the footage thru FW400 to a MacBook Pro 2.2GHZ Intel Core Duo. I then copied the captured footage to my 320GB external HD. I would recapture the footage to my FCE 4 but the camera was a rental.

[Facundo Campos] ” I would recapture the footage to my FCE 4 but the camera was a rental.”

Well there’s no way to use that footage in FCP 5.0.

Did you actually capture the footage to the HDV codec or something else? If it’s anything else, that would explain why FCE 4 can’t read the footage.

FCE only handles HDV using the Apple Intermediate Codec I believe, if you captured in using the FCP HDV Codec then FCE will not be able to read those files.

Always best to capture and edit on the same version of FCP to avoid issues.

You need to delete that and purchase a legal copy of Final Cut Pro. Keep in mind Apple has staff members who monitor every single post in this and every Apple related forums. Your login and IP Address information is stored and obviously should Apple request it, I would guess the Cow would share that information.

We are a professional forum and most everyone on here is a professional who earns their living in this industry. We do not support or recommend anyone use an illegal copy of Final Cut Pro.
