FCE Still images!!
Heya all,
I know this may sound like we are going over old ground here but I can’t for the life of me work out WHY my high quality professional images look like absolute rubbish when I put them in the timeline and play them back.
I have been reading through forums and even reading the manual (wild, I know) and am sure I’m forgetting something ridiculously simple as I have seen the image look like I wanted it to ONCE when I was fooling around in motion blur settings. I went back to it minutes later and then couldn’t find my way back to that perfect image. Maybe I was hallucinating, who knows, it was rather late . . .
Yes I am rendering, have checked all my settings a million times, which is probably confusing things further.
Its crucial I get these images right and I am really starting to panic as I would have loved to have spent the weekend (and today) actually working on creative content not data management. I’ve even spoken with a couple of editing friends and still no one knows whats going on.
Please, tell me I’m just having a blonde moment and the fix is as simple as changing obvious setting that I have overlooked.
I’m working in 4:3 PAL and have tried TIFF, 300dpi jpegs and 72dpi jpegs. Issue is consistent.

Hi Naretha,
You haven’t mentioned,but I guess that your sequence codec is DV.
If so, set DVCPro50, or Prores, and see if its look better.
Set your Canvas window to 100% and render to judge the quality.

It’s Final Cut Express 4, DVCPro50 and ProRes aren’t an option.
72dpi, 300dpi are irrelevant in video, its a print only thing.
You need to refer to the pixel dimension of the complete frame.DV PAL is 720 x 576.
Its not the best format for this type of work. You might be better choosing an HDV AVCHD format.

This is good to know (dpi irrelevant in video)
I am creating a projection work, and the video format which was captured (not by me) is SD 4:3
My intention was to keep it in 4:3 as it looks better frame wise in the space. Also the image sizes are much better suited.
I’ll tackle it again tonight and try your suggestions.
