FCE and Multimedia/AVI
I’m using Adobe Director to make an interactive educational
Dvd, burned to a hybrid disk to play on both Mac and Windows.
I plan to include 15+ videos, so they need to be small, while
still “legible”.I can make the videos AVIs which should play on both, but,
720 x 480 is too big. I have QuickTime Pro, but it won’t
allow me to change the size setting, nor will FCE. What I’m
looking for is 480 x 360 @ 15 fps (360 x 240 @ 15 fps would
be okay). Right now I’ve got 720×480 @ 29.97 fps. In order
to get them to play on both Mac and Windows I have to use
Cinepak compression.I’m using FCE HD 3.5 and a Mac Pro.
Help, please.

SHOULD, is that good enough?
I would look into using flash if you want maximum compatibility, also the file size to quality is good.

Thank you for your advice and you may very well be right about Flash, but I’m using Director. It would take me months to get up to speed on Flash.
However, I think I’ve worked out a “fix”. I open the raw FCE movie in QuickTime and export it to the size that I want. I then open the exported movie and export it again @ 15 fps as an AVI.
I’m not thrilled about compressing the movies twice, but the quality is legible and I haven’t come up with a better solution.
I can’t believe that FCE won’t let me choose the size and codec that I need. That’s just lame.
