FC express workflow with Sony XDCam EX1
I have Final Cut Express on my MacBook Pro and do not have access or money for FC studio pro.
I know that working directly with the original footage shot on our Sony XDCam EX1 will not just transfer to Final Cut Express, I would need FCP 6.0.2.
But is there a workflow I could utilize where I could take the original footage and convert it. Then cut it in Final Cut Express. Move the project to FCP (assuming I could borrow it for a day) and then re-link the original media for full quality content.This or any other workflow would do.
There is around 6 hours of footage.

When you ingest in FCP the material can be converted to either ProRes or Apple Intermediate Codec. If you convert to AIC, which is not ideal and not as good as ProRes, you would be able to edit in FCE.
You’d have to test this, but if you ingest the material twice, once in ProRes and once in AIC, then edit the AIC material in FCE, test if the FCE project opened in FCP can be relinked to the ProRes material. It’s theoretically possible but I don’t know anyone who’s done it, and can’t test it.

That’s great thank you. I see what you’re saying.
Would it be best to do just one large “batch export” for all clips to AIC or is there a more efficient way to go about it?
