FC Canvas Adjust Pixel Aspect Ratio?
Posted by Jay Lee on July 2, 2008 at 4:42 pmHi Guys,
Is it possible to adjust the pixel aspect ratio of the video displaying in the FC canvas as in After Effects.
Our footage is SD, project and sequences are all SD matching the correct pixel aspect ratio but the canvas display is distorted. Left and right side are pushed in ><. Renders out of FC are OK Thoughts welcome. Cheers, JJeremy Garchow replied 17 years, 8 months ago 3 Members · 8 Replies -

July 2, 2008 at 4:58 pmAre you working with anamorphic footage? If so, make sure your timeline is set up for 16:9.
if not, in the canvas window under the drop down menu of the left pill like button with percentages on it, toggle the ‘correct for aspect ratio’ option.

That’s the setting that has been alluding us. By un-checking it things look fine. Footage is not anamorphic.Best,

July 2, 2008 at 5:29 pmWhy would this option not be ‘un-checked’ by default for NTSC SD sequences???

July 2, 2008 at 5:33 pmIt is basically correcting the aspect ratio for you so that it looks like it’d look on a tv. If you uncheck it, you are seeing the non-square pixel ratio that looks stretched on square pixel monitors such as computer flat panels.

August 4, 2008 at 6:56 pmHi,
I am having a similar problem with 4:3 dv ntsc footage, except that I am exporting mpeg 4 (client requested this format) for the web and I want the pixel aspect correction to remain in the output. My sequence looks fine within the FCP canvas but when it is exported through compressor it is squeezed vertically. I’ve performed tests using square pixels and ntsc ccir601/ dv ratios with the same result. Any advice is very appreciated. Thanks

August 11, 2008 at 11:14 pmYou need to set your web movie to a square pixel count such as 320×240 or 640×480.
