I read somewhere that you can format a drive in FAT 32 on a Mac that will enable you to read and save files on a Mac or PC, but I do not see that option in the Disk Utility. Can this be done?

The option is there in my disk utility. What version of the OS are you running?

Keep in mind that the FAT32 format has some limitations. File transfer is much slower, there are limitations on file names, and there is also a 4GB file limit.

I found it. I had the volume icon selected instead of the disk.
