If you look at the Compressor User Manual, there’s a section of QMaster and setting up a virtual cluster. I will say that this has caused all sorts of problems on our systems for whatever reason so we gave that up. We had renders fail, renders not start, all sorts of issues.

As long as I don’t run a cluster, Compressor works.

I have not done any 1080/30p so I really don’t know how that will turn out.

Does anyone use accelerator cards? Does that make a difference for compressing?

there is an H.264 accelarator from elgato, I don’t know how well it works.

there is a also a thomson “fire coder Blu” pci-e card that greatly
accelarates mpeg2 and H.264 for Blu-Ray encoding but its pc only.

setting up virtual clustering should not cause any problems and frankly I could
not be without it now that I have used it.
I’m not running Leopard though as some Leopard users have reported compressor issues
with virtual clustering.

4gb of ram should be enough, but if you run multi-core systems
it should have at least 1gb per core. so an 8-core should have at least
8gb of ram.
