faster Preview playback
Posted by Marc Nibor on December 18, 2013 at 11:12 amis there any way to speed up playback in the preview. for example like in vlc player.
I need to go through a few hours of footage and find “the perfect” scenes… standard scrubbing will probably make me miss something. a faster playback rate would be the best solution for me.
I don’t want to change the speed directly on the footage though.
Any ideas?

December 18, 2013 at 11:26 amI hope I’ve understood your question right:
Press shift-L repeatedly to speed up playback. Shift-J slows it down or plays backwards if playback has stopped.
J and L on their own go in bigger jumps.
This feature is the main reason I use Premiere instead of FC Pro.It also makes speech “micky mouse” style, but I find that easier to understand than some of the time-stretched methods used in other players.

December 18, 2013 at 11:54 amGood to hear it Marc! I was really chuffed when someone on COW told me the same tip – I used to hold the mouse button down on the jog/shuttle control until someone told me about the L shortcut. And J is great for scooting backwards to check an edit, rather than clicking the timeline.
Make the most of your saved time 🙂Paddy, CreativeMedia.org.uk

Here’s some added functionality, just in case you don’t know about the JKL Trimming mode:

Might save you even more time…

February 2, 2014 at 4:57 pmIs there a way to get it to default to a higher-speed? I increase the speed with J and L to 2x, but after halting playback – Premiere reverts back to the default 1x speed.

February 2, 2014 at 11:00 pmI don’t think there’s a way of changing the default speed, unless anyone knows better?
