Faster encoding: avid or QTpro?
I did a speed test. I exported a 7min seq. two different ways:
1)from the avid as a sorenson QT movie. It took about realtime.
2) as QT reference out of the avid(this took seconds), opened it up in QTpro, and exported from there using the same Sorenson settings.
I was able to shave off about 1 minute of encoding time using the latter method. This is because the avid is only using limited processing power, while QT pro is using all, no?
Would this be even faster with a faster MAC, like a dual quad core?I’ve read that for some export codecs, the avid will use all processor cores available, while for others, it only uses one.
DNxHD exporting/transcoding/encoding for example will peg the CPU cores to the max, whereas an Apple MPEG4 or Apple H264 encode doesn’t.
Which codecs use one core and which ones use all?My system: Quad 2.5 Ghz power PC G5, 3GB of RAM, OS10.4.9, AVid version 2.8.3 adrenaline
