fast forward effect
Hi there, i’m trying to do a fast forward effect, like in VHS or Beta but i can’t manage to get the proper effect, is there any tutorial that can teach me how to do it? or anyone can teach me how to do it?
I’ve try with a offset with some mask, but it seems like a pause moment than a fast forward. -

I couldn’t find anything when I searched. Easiest way I would think if you have the resources is to lay back to a beta and well, you know…

you need to enable time remapping for the layer, then change the endpoint of the time remap to make the footage play faster.
then go to the Animation menu and click Browse Presets and find the Image-Special Effects folder. There are some cool distortion presets in there to make the video look like it’s being fast forwarded, if you tweak them and add to them.
That should at least get you started.

I cut the video with real small masks and then add some white noise, and make another layer with with a off set with white line and noise, it seems close to the end effect.

the thing about After Effects is that there are many ways to skin a cat. What works for me may not work for you, because our sources may be different, and the look we want to achieve may be slightly different. That’s the artistic part of the creative process… That’s the part I love.

I’m with Joey. Record your stuff to tape, fast forward the tape, capture the fast forward.
this is the ONLY way you will get believable artifacts caused by head switching, image fracturing, noise. Anything you do in AE will look like a simulation, That may work but it is instantly identifiable as a faked effect.bogiesan
