    Hi Andrew,

Just been through your Frame Rate Conversion tutorial and d/loaded the .ffx preset..

Basically I’ve got a PAL clip (I *think* it’s UFF, though can’t really tell..do I need to run your deinterlacing tutorial before converting these frame rates? Sorry, new to this conversion lark!..) and I need to convert it to NTSC for a DVD to send to the states. Our Standards Converter on our NewTek video Toaster looked awful and really screwed up the fields when it resized for NTSC, so I’m trying to find a more elegant solution.

So, I pulled in the PAL clip (16:9 LB in 4:3 frame) and followed the tutorial to the dot. I found the picture looked better not separating the fields..but I’m probably totally wrong on this?!?

My main problem is that AE is still trying to preview it at 25fps and so it’s in slow motion still. I’ve set everything up as per the tute, but can’t find any joy!

    HELP! Thanks,
    Jim.

Well, however you deinterlace your footage, you need to render it out into a movie file then reimport to do the frame rate conversion.
You should do this for each shot for best results.

Then in the Frame Rate Tutorial, you need to create a NTSC comp and follow the tutorial for your needs.

Thanks for getting back to me Andrew…Turns out I was just being incredibly thick and still had my project settings set to PAL 25fps! Sorry, I feel a bit silly now.

Keep rolling with your tutorials..it’s a constant prizefight between you and Aharon for best tutes on the web! I’ve learnt 200% more AE skills in the last few months from the cow in one way or another. ace.

On a side – do you do any PAL versions of your videocopilot DVDs yet? Been meaning to get on of the bundles.
