Fake interactive TV (red button) effect?
Hi i just done a commercial for a student project and i would like to present it with a press the red button effect which will link the watcher as if it was really on TV to see an interactive pretend screen following on from the ad. I want to know how i can add an interface. I though that id have a red button which would glow as if it would be pressed and then a few seconds later a screen would come up etc.. so my question is how can i add it?

After Effects does not do interactivity. You would have to do that in Flash or a DVD authoring program.

Thanks for your reply, I am not trying to create an actual real interactive interface. Let me break it down, i have created a mini booklet in flash and saved it as a movie file. what i want to do now is add it to the end of my advert that simulates the viewer to make it look like the red button has been pressed and the flash file comes up. I was gona have a glowing redbutton that says something like. “red button loading…” and then the flash file comes up over the video footage. Therefore it looks like an interactive thing. I was considering adding some more “fake” stuff to make it look more authentic like a “submit your email address to find out more” and a box following it.

I still don’t understand what you’re asking. Are you wanting to know how to create a glowing red button? Do you have a graphic of a button and interface elements, or are you asking how to create those from scratch? Or are you asking how AE works in general?

1) I want to know how to create a red button with the text “Press the red button to find out whats your footprint” followed by a glowed red button showing “Loading. please wait”
(this will look like its been pressed)2) how can i add my flash file booklet which i have made like this https://www.airmiles.co.uk/flash/welcome/index.htm to appear on the screen with the a blue button that says press here to turn page and green button to go back etc.
the pages of the booklet flip automactically so you dont need to literally press anything to make it move.
3) a submit box that comes on the screen after my booklet

Sounds to me like you just need a graphic of a button it various states. You can create those in Photoshop. Then merely place them in your project. Have the “PRESS” button either cut or dissolve or whatever transition you like to the “LOADING” button and then again to the booklet.
As for the booklet portion I think you just need to figure how long you would like each page to stay up on screen. Which is tricky because everyone reads at different speeds and you don’t want them to go by too fast or stay up too long thereby losing your audience’s attention. I am not sure how your Flash movie that you exported is setup as far as timing goes, I am taking a wild stab but you might be able to use Time Remapping to get the pages to turn as you see fit.
I have no idea what you mean by a “Submit” box, but obviously you cannot have the viewer submit anything. So it would sound as if it would be a pointless element unless you will just place some sort of contact info there.
What is you final destination of your project (forgive me if you stated it, I may have missed it)? If it is web why wouldn’t you just create all of this inside of Flash? If it is for a video presentation, TV or the like then I guess the above would apply.
Someone else might have a better grasp on what you are asking or know how to incorporate those graphic elements better than I.
