I’m working in Final Cut 4.5 and when I import previously captured quicktime files the audio levels drop dramatically compared to the source files.

Footage was shot on a Canon GL2
    Captured using FCP 5.1
Then the quicktime files were imported to FCP 4.5 to edit.

Source file audio levels are between -12 and -6db.
Final Cut playback of imported files -70 and -60db.

Can anyone help me? I’m pulling my hair out.

At a guess I would think the problem is that the files were captured using QT vers 7 and you are now playing back using QT vers 6. This will result in audio being almost inaudible. I don’t know if you can upgrade FCP4.5 to QT 7. Better would be to upgrade FCP 4.5 and then upgrade your QT

I’m running Quicktime 7 on the system I’m trying to edit on. Does Final Cut 4.5 only utilize the abilities of Quicktime 6?
